As you may know, for the past 3 years I have been visiting Primary Schools and Children’s Organisations, using my book The Forgetful Elephant to raise children’s awareness of dementia. It is always wonderful to talk to the children, and so worthwhile when I am able to answer any questions they may have.
To make it possible for teachers and group leaders to talk to the children without my presence I designed the Ellie Memory Helper Pack, which I hoped would be a great success. Over the past year I have tried to encourage schools to purchase the pack, to no avail. The bottom line is that they want it for nothing: it seems that school budgets have been cut to the bone. I recently spoke to my neighbour who is a member of a school PTA, and she told me that instead of raising funds for fun days out for the children, they are now raising funds to buy books and other necessities for the school. This being the case, it is hardly surprising that they can’t afford to buy my Resources.
I had to think again about how I can go about getting these packs in to schools and children’s organisations to help raise children’s awareness of dementia, and it seems that the only way is not to charge for them. If you have any other ideas, they’re always welcome!
Greetings Card 2015
So this year I decided to create my Ellie Greetings Card 2015 and use the proceeds from the sale of the cards to make Ellie Memory Helper Packs. It is a non-religious holiday card, suitable for everyone. Once again, my wonderful illustrator Barbara Dessi produced a beautiful sketch for the card, based on the front cover illustration of my book. The cards are attractive, I hope you agree, and high quality, thanks to my new local printer in Stirling. I’ve written a special message inside the card, and I hope everyone who receives one will remember to do as suggested:
If you know someone who’s on their own
At this special time of year
Make time to call or visit them
And spread some Festive cheer!
The festive season is a happy time, but it can be sad for those who are on their own, for whatever reason. A little call or visit really can make all the difference. Even if each person who receives one of these cards calls or visits one lonely person, just think how it can help to spread some festive cheer!
I really hope that many people will buy these cards to help spread the message, and at the same time help me to provide as many schools and children’s organisations as possible with a FREE Ellie Memory Helper Pack, so that children aren’t missing out on learning about something so important just because of government cutbacks and other funding issues.
The cards are now on sale on this website at £4.99 for for a pack of 6, plus postage. Please help me to share the news that they are now available.
Please contact me if you would like to place a bulk order, or if you would like to discuss selling these cards for your own fundraising.
